TIPS & ADVICEPOP-UPS & EVENTS4 MIN READ

Your pop-up lasts 2 days. Your customer relationship should last a lot longer.

A pop-up isn't just a chance to make a sale. It's a chance to meet customers who could buy from you again.

You made a sale at a pop-up. Great.

But if that customer walks away and you have no way of speaking to them again, you've left one of the biggest opportunities of the event behind.

A pop-up doesn't just give you sales. It gives you the chance to meet people who may continue buying from you for months or even years.

An Instagram follower might scroll past your reel without a second thought. A pop-up visitor has touched your products, seen your craftsmanship and met you in person. That first interaction gives you a valuable opportunity to build a longer relationship — if you stay in touch.

1. Ask in a way that feels like you, not a form

This isn't about being a pushy salesperson. It's about staying in touch in a way that feels personal.

When someone buys from you, try to capture just three things:

  • Their name
  • Their WhatsApp number
  • What they bought

That's enough.

If asking feels awkward, make it helpful rather than transactional. Here are a few simple ways to ask:

“Can I send your bill on WhatsApp? It takes two seconds.”
“May I send you a quick care guide for this piece? Customers usually find it useful.”
“Would you like me to let you know when our next collection launches?”

People are much more comfortable sharing their details when they understand why you're asking.

And if you want to message them later about new collections, offers or future pop-ups, ask for their permission to do that. Sharing a number for a bill or care guide isn't automatically the same as agreeing to receive marketing messages.

2. Count more than cash

Imagine two pop-ups.

Market A

Sales: ₹40,000

New customer contacts: 5

Market B

Sales: ₹40,000

New customer contacts: 20

The cash earned that day was exactly the same.

But Market B gave you something extra: 20 people who now know your brand and whom you can stay connected with.

Some may buy again. Some may visit your next pop-up. Some may recommend you to a friend.

That's why, after every event, don't only ask:

“How much did I sell today?”

Also ask:

“How many customer relationships did I start?”

Both numbers matter.

3. Turn one purchase into a conversation that keeps going

Collecting customer details only matters if you actually use them.

A few days after the pop-up, send a warm message. Not something overly promotional. Just something genuinely useful or personal.

Days 1–3

Thank them for visiting and share something helpful about their purchase.

“Hope you're enjoying your new indigo scarf! A little care tip — hand washing it in cold water helps keep the colour beautiful for longer.”

A few weeks later

If you're launching something new that genuinely fits their taste, let them know.

Before your next pop-up

Send a friendly personal invitation.

“We'll be at the Sunday pop-up in Indiranagar next weekend. Would love to see you again if you're around!”

The goal isn't to constantly send discount codes. It's simply to stay connected so that your brand stays memorable.

Some people will become repeat customers. Others won't. But you've given that first pop-up interaction the opportunity to become something more valuable than a single sale.

How SmoothSe helps

A busy pop-up table gets chaotic fast — customers to attend to, payments to collect, bills to send.

That's exactly when saving customer details can fall through the cracks.

SmoothSe makes it easier to record the sale, capture the customer's details and keep their purchase history together in one place. When you want to reconnect, you know who bought what and can reach out on WhatsApp.

The pop-up may end on Sunday evening.

But for the people who walked away with something you made, the conversation is just getting started.
